The project GREENCHEM has officially kicked off. On 14 and 15 April, we met with the other 22 partners to map out future courses of action and establish a European network of centres of professional excellence in digital and sustainable chemistry. European network of centres of professional excellence in digital and sustainable chemistry.
The chemical sector is a manufacturing sector and is of strategic importance to the European Commission, as well as being a key driver of the Industrial Plan for the Region of Murcia 2026–2035. It has never been more important not to rely on products manufactured in third countries outside the European Union. Doing so in a way responsible and efficient is essential for the environment.
That is why the European Commission has high hopes for this project written by Skills Divers and selected as one of the 15 centres of professional excellence in the 2025 call for proposals from among 305 submissions.
Skills Divers is responsible for the project’s quality assurance, amongst other tasks, and we will work to ensure that the results are of use to the regional and European industries.
22 partners from 10 European countries
The project will be coordinated by UCAM over the next four years and has a budget of €5 million for 22 partners from 10 different European countries. In addition to UCAM, the consortium comprises key partners in the sector, such as the Association of Chemists of the Region of Murcia, the SEF National Chemistry Reference Centre in Cartagena, and Jaume I University in Castellón.

First meeting GREENCHEM project in Murcia the days 14 and 15 of april.
The GREENCHEM meeting took place at the UCAM HiTech where the partners outlined the initial areas of focus for the coming years. This marks a milestone in internationalisation, aimed at bridging the gap between the classroom and the real needs of industry. To this end, it will modernise strategic infrastructure such as the pilot polymer recycling plant in Cartagena and a further three in Europe, ensuring that future professionals work in an industry with zero environmental impact.
The GREENCHEM project has been funded by the European Commission through the Erasmus+ programme.
